Let’s get real… life can sometimes feel more hard than easy.
You know that saying, “that’s a piece of cake”?
Well… I’ve been looking for that piece of cake for a hot minute. LOL.
At this point, I’m pretty sure whoever baked that cake ate all the slices and left the rest of us out here trying to survive on crumbs.
So how about we stop for a second and ask ourselves something honest:
What makes life hard?
Or maybe even deeper—what makes it feel hard?
As a recovering Martha over here, sometimes I get stuck in the to-do mode (which I’ve talked about before). And when I don’t see the progress or the results I thought would be there by now, I start equating that with:
I must be doing something wrong.
And that right there? That’s where life starts to feel heavier than it’s meant to.
Because what happens is this…
We get hit with mental exhaustion.
Overthinking.
Those “I thought I’d be further along by now” thoughts.
The moments where you’re doing everything you know to do… and it still feels like it’s not working.
And if we’re not careful, those moments start shaping what we believe.
Not just about our situation…
but about God.
We may not say it out loud, but somewhere deep down we start asking:
Is God disappointed with me?
Am I missing something that He’s asked me to do?
Why does this feel harder than it should?
And that’s exactly where I found myself this morning.
Sitting at my desk… staring at a verse that felt like it was quietly saying,
“Hey… come back to this.”
So I did.
I went back and re-read what I had written down yesterday.
Lately, I’ve started keeping a notebook where I write down any verse that really speaks to me. Because let’s be honest—my other option was covering my office walls with sticky notes like a woman on a mission with zero wall space left. 😂
So I figured… why not collect them in one place and actually go back and read them daily?
And honestly?
I can’t think of a better verse to begin that little book with than this one:
“His divine power has given us everything we need to for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3
So here’s where we’re headed today.
Let’s go back to the beginning of this verse and unpack the depth of what it’s really saying—because I think this may be exactly where that missing piece of cake has been hiding all along.
“His divine power…”
Stop and think about that for a second.
It’s not just saying God has power…it’s reminding us that everything that follows STARTS with Him.
This isn’t us trying to figure things out or working harder.
This is all HIM and that changes things.
Because here’s the reality: HE is already at work. Already moving. Already present, even right here in the middle of real life. And I think we honestly sometimes forget that. We start carrying things like it all depends on us, when really, it was always meant to flow from Him.
“has given us…”
Get this!
This doesn’t say He’s going to give…..it says He already has.
Here’s the scenario we place ourselves in where we keep asking God for what we need while He’s already placed it in our hands!
Come on now!
“everything we need…”
And then I read that part again…
everything we need.
Which means on His end, there’s no lack.
And I know that can hit a little, because when something feels off or missing, our first instinct is to think something isn’t there.
But maybe the question isn’t, “Is it missing?”
Maybe it’s… have I been pulling from what He’s already provided? Or am I pulling from within my own strength?
“for life and godliness…”
I love this part because it brings it into everyday life.
It’s not separating your “God moments” from everything else. It’s not like one part of your life is spiritual and the rest is just… surviving.
It’s all one life.
The ordinary days.
The full days.
The moments where you feel strong and the moments where you don’t.
And all of it is meant to come from the same place—your connection with Him.
“through the knowledge of Him…”
This is where everything begins to shift because this isn’t about knowing about God.
It’s about knowing Him intimately.
Like… really walking with Him in your everyday life.
Talking with Him.
Letting Him into your thoughts.
Bringing Him into the middle of what you’re dealing with—not just the moments that feel “put together.”
Because what started to hit me was this:
What He’s given me becomes real in my life as I stay connected to Him.
Which means…
I can have everything I need sitting right there…and still live like I don’t. And it’s not because God didn’t give it—but because I’m not always drawing from that relationship.
So the key here is: draw from Him and nothing else.
This leads into a beautiful truth in the next portion of this scripture where it says:
“who called us….”
This is our personal invitation from the Lord of all creation!
He called you and me. On purpose and with intention into a relationship with HIM. And it’s through this relationship that HE GIVES US EVERYTHING WE NEED.
“by His own glory and goodness.”
And this right here just brings it all home.
Because it reminds me this was never about me getting everything right. It’s not about how much I do or how well I hold it all together.
It all flows from Him.
His goodness is what holds us steady.
His presence is what keeps us grounded.
And the more we stay connected to Him, the more we start living from what He’s already given.
So here’s the deeper layer…
This verse isn’t just encouraging us.
It’s quietly removing our excuses.
In a way that sets us free.
Because if:
His power is already at work
Everything has already been given
And it’s accessed through knowing Him
Then the question shifts from:
👉 “Why is life sometimes hard?”
to:
👉 “Am I actually living connected to the One who already gave me what I need?”
You know what…
I think I just found that missing piece of cake.
And it wasn’t hiding in easier circumstances…
it was sitting right there in His Word the whole time.
And I don’t know about you… but I’m going back for another slice.

I have one of those notebooks too Tracee. It really helps when you need some inspiration.
