You ever read a book that was so good, so full of hope and potential, and then BAM—the author took a hard left turn, and suddenly everything went downhill? Maybe a character made a terrible decision out of fear, and you wanted to reach through the pages and shake them.
But here’s the thing: fear does the same thing in our lives.
Fear loves to grab the pen right out of our hands and rewrite the script. It turns bold dreams into safe compromises, faith into hesitation, and purpose into regret. It sneaks in with whispers like:
What if you fail?
What will they think?
You’re not qualified for this.
Someone else could do it better.
And before we know it, we’re sitting on the sidelines of our own story, watching from a distance instead of living it.
Fear’s Favorite Red Pen
Fear is an editor with a heavy hand. It takes what God has already declared over our lives and starts slashing:
Called → Unworthy
Chosen → Forgotten
Capable → Not enough
Brave → Unqualified
But here’s the truth: Fear is a liar. It only has the power we give it. And the good news? God already wrote the ending.
God Didn’t Call You to a Safe Story
Think about the heroes of the Bible. Did any of them get a safe assignment? Nope.
Moses had a speech problem, yet God sent him to confront Pharaoh.
Gideon was hiding in a winepress, and God called him a mighty warrior.
Peter denied Jesus three times but still became the rock the Church was built on.
God doesn’t call the fearless. He calls the faithful.
Take Back the Pen
So how do we stop letting fear edit our story?
Recognize It for What It Is – Fear isn’t wisdom. It’s a thief. Don’t let it disguise itself as “caution” when it’s actually keeping you stuck.
John 10:10 (NLT) – "The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life."
Fear steals your joy, your purpose, and your confidence. But Jesus came to give you a full life—one that isn’t ruled by fear.
Rewrite the Lies – Take every fearful thought captive (2 Cor. 10:5) and replace it with truth. If fear says, You’re not enough, God says, My grace is sufficient for you.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NLT) – "We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ."
Fear speaks in lies, but God’s Word is truth. When we filter our thoughts through scripture, we can silence fear’s false narrative.
Step Forward Anyway – Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s trusting God more than you trust your fear. Take the step, even if your knees are shaking.
Joshua 1:9 (NLT) – "This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Fear says, What if I fail? God says, I am with you. Fear says, What if I’m not strong enough? God says, Be strong and courageous.
Your Story Isn’t Over
Fear wants to keep you in the rough draft stage, but God already has the final copy written. The question is—who are you going to let hold the pen?
It’s time to take it back.

This is a great message!!!! It reminds me of the fear I allow to creep in and hold me back!!!
