Last week we talked about Dwell — making the choice to make God’s presence the place we live, not just the place we visit.
But… guess what?
That’s not the stopping point.
Picture it like this:
👉 Dwell is your home…
but position is your posture inside that home.
Ohhh come with me as we unpack this crazy-amazing truth.
Because this right here? It’s everything.
Dwell Is Where You Stay.
Position Is How You Stay.
Isn’t that good?
Get this:
You can dwell in the Lord’s presence…
and still stand in the wrong posture.
Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
“Your own ears will hear Him.
Right behind you a voice will say,
‘This is the way you should go,’
whether to the right or to the left.”
You can be in the secret place…
but not actually be positioned to listen.
You can be near…
but still be living distracted.
You can inhabit the right place…
but hold the wrong posture.
And when that happens?
We can be doing all the right things outwardly —
Bible open, journal ready, worship playlist humming —
but inwardly, your mind is running laps.
Trying to figure out the next step.
Trying to plan the next move.
Trying to solve things God never asked you to solve.
You know that feeling —
you’re in the presence of God
but your insides are pacing.
And here’s the thing:
Dwelling gets you in the room.
Positioning determines whether you actually hear Him.
Why Position Is the Harder Part
Dwelling in the presence of the Lord isn’t difficult.
Honestly, it’s beautiful.
But positioning your heart to truly listen?
To truly trust?
To obey what He whispers?
Ohhhh that’s the part that flips everything.
Here is the reality:
It’s possible to be close to God
and still take matters into your own hands.
Cue Abraham and Sarah.
Let’s go there for one second.
A Quick Detour to Abraham & Sarah
God Himself — face to face —
spoke a promise over them.
A son.
An heir.
A miracle.
And do you know what happened?
They believed…
until they didn’t.
They received the promise…
but not the position to hold it.
So what did they do?
They tried to “help God out.”
(As if He needed their assistance. 😂)
And from that single mispositioned moment,
a whole layer of complication entered their family line.
Not because they didn’t love God.
Not because they didn’t dwell with Him.
But because they didn’t position their hearts
to trust Him long enough
to let the promise unfold His way.
Note to self:
“This is what happens when we dwell but don’t position.”
Whew.
Position Is Trust in Action
Position is trusting what He said
more than what you see.
Position is the posture that says:
“I’m staying right here
until Your voice becomes louder
than my urge to fix everything.”
Position is the patience
to let God unfold things in His timing
instead of rushing ahead in yours.
Position is when your insides stop sprinting
and your heart finally goes…
“Yes Lord. I’m listening.”
Hebrews 10:36 (NLT)
“Patient endurance is what you need now,
so that you will continue to do God’s will.
Then you will receive all that He has promised.”
Your Position Shapes Your Purpose
This is why purpose never starts with a plan. Purpose starts with posture.
Dwelling is beautiful.
Necessary.
Foundational.
But position?
That’s where purpose is actually formed.
Before You Go… A Question to Take With You This Week
Last week the question was:
“Am I dwelling?”
This week the question is:
“How am I positioned while I dwell?”
Because you can be in the right place
but standing the wrong way.
And He loves us too much
to let us miss what He’s trying to say
simply because we couldn’t sit still long enough to listen.
Wednesday’s Heart Talk goes deeper into this —
you do not want to miss it.
To give you a sneak peek, it’s titled:
What Habakkuk, My Dad, and a Rent Bill Taught Me About Position
But for today?
Stay in the house.
And check your position.
Everything flows from there.
Psalm 25:4–5 (NLT)
“Show me the right path, O Lord;
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by your truth and teach me,
for You are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in You.”
Until next time, friend. 💛

Thank you, Tracee. You nailed it! Blessings 🙏
