Before we get any deeper into this Holy Habit series, I want to stop and remind you of something.
Everything you do in your walk with God is never about trying to prove anything.
Let me say that again.
Everything you do in your walk with God is never about trying to prove anything.
Doesn’t that make you breathe a little easier?
Because if we’re honest, the world we live in runs on proving.
Prove your worth.
Prove your strength.
Prove your intelligence.
Prove you belong.
Achievement first. Approval second.
But God flipped the whole thing upside down.
In His kingdom, nothing about your life with Him is defined by what you do for Him.
It’s defined by what He has already done for you.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (NLT)
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
That changes everything.
It means you don’t get to boast about your salvation.
You don’t get to take credit for your calling.
You don’t get to act like your discipline earned you extra love.
He wiped the slate clean.
And that also means something else…
You get to live from rest.
Not from a checklist.
Not from the “top ten things I better do today so God stays pleased with me.”
Phew.
Because if that were the case, I would have earned a big fat F more times than I can count.
Why this is a Holy Habit
Before we talk about prayer rhythms and scripture reading and showing up consistently, we need to remember why we show up in the first place.
One word.
Love.
We show up because He first loved us.
That’s it.
Not fear.
Not obligation.
Not pressure.
But, Love.
1 John 4:19 (NLT)
“We love each other because he loved us first.”
And when you really settle into that truth, something softens inside you.
You’re not earning.
You’re responding.
You’re not striving.
You’re loving back.
There is nothing greater than the love of Jesus. Nothing.
And there is absolutely nothing you can do that will change His mind about you.
So today?
Rest in that.
Enjoy that.
Let that sink a little deeper than it did yesterday.
You are loved by the God of all creation.
And that is more than enough reason to keep showing up for an Abba Father like Him.
Reflection Questions
In what areas of my walk with God do I subtly feel like I have something to prove?
When I show up to pray, read Scripture, or serve — am I responding to love… or trying to earn reassurance?
What would change in my daily rhythms if I truly believed I was already fully loved and accepted?
Where do I need to allow myself to rest instead of striving?
If I removed fear, pressure, and obligation from my spiritual life — what would loving God back actually look like?
Anchor Scriptures (NLT)
1 John 4:19
“We love each other because he loved us first.”
Foundation: We respond to love. We don’t initiate it.
Ephesians 2:8–9
“God saved you by his grace when you believed… it is a gift from God.”
Salvation is a gift, not a reward.
Romans 5:8
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
He loved you before you got it right.
Galatians 5:6
“What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”
Our walk flows from love, not performance.
Hebrews 4:16
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God…”
We approach Him confidently, not nervously.
